Membership

Membership makes you an owner of the society rather than a customer of it. It carries a share, a vote, and a claim on how the society is run.

What membership carries

Four things, and the second is the one most people are surprised by.

A share

You hold share capital in the society, in the amount the bye-laws set.

A vote

One vote, whatever your balance. The same weight as every other member.

A right to the accounts

The audited accounts come to the general body, and the general body is you.

A right to stand

Any member in good standing may stand for election to the board.

Who may join

Eligibility is set by the bye-laws the members approved, and admission is a decision of the board. The society operates across more than one state, so membership reaches beyond Maharashtra.

Ask about eligibility

What the board looks at

  • Eligibility under the bye-lawsThe categories of person the society is registered to serve.
  • Identity and addressThe documents required for any regulated financial relationship.
  • Share subscriptionThe share capital the bye-laws set for admission.
  • A resolution of the boardAdmission is recorded, and so is a refusal, with the reason.

Exact amounts and categories come from the bye-laws. Ask the society and it will tell you before you apply.

How it happens

Four steps, all of them involving a person. Nothing about membership is completed on this website.

01 You ask

A callback request, a phone call, or a visit. Somebody from the society speaks to you.

02 You apply

The society's own form, with the documents the bye-laws require.

03 The board decides

Admission or refusal, recorded either way, with a reason.

04 You hold a share

Your share is issued, your name enters the register, and your vote begins.

Leaving the society

Membership ends when you ask it to, subject to the bye-laws and to any obligation still outstanding.

Withdrawal

A member may resign under the bye-laws. Share capital is refunded as the bye-laws provide, once any borrowing is settled.

Nomination

Every member may nominate a person to receive their interest in the society. Keeping that nomination current is the single most useful thing a member can do for their family.

Ask about membership

Leave your name and number and someone from the society calls you back to talk through eligibility and what joining involves.
